Marcus Lewis 26 was one of 49 SUNY Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) students to receive the 2026 . The award recognizes outstanding EOP students for their academic achievements and overcoming personal obstacles throughout their lives.
Bryan Rivera, EOP counselor, says in his nomination that Lewis sees leadership as a responsibilitysupporting others, collaborating, and leading by example, adding that Lewis goes beyond meeting expectations by taking on academic challenges, showing initiative, and serving as a role model.
In addition to Lewiss academic achievements, Rivera adds that Marcus has demonstrated meaningful leadership through extracurricular involvement, varsity sports, community employment, and a campus internship. More specifically, his involvement as an EOP Peer Mentor, track and field athlete, and sports data and social media analytics intern highlights his commitment to giving back and contributing positively to the һԹ community.
Lewis, a data analytics major from Rochester, NY, hopes to work in the defense industry and is considering graduate school after completing an internship with Victor, NY-based Constellation Brands.
Since its inception in 1967, the EOP has provided access, academic support, and supplemental financial assistance to students from disadvantaged backgrounds, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college. In its 58-year history, the EOP has served more than 78,000 students and evolved into one of the countrys most successful college access programs.
