Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj, Assistant Professor of Stage Direction

is an Indo-Afro-Caribbean, multi-disciplinary, award-winning American Theatre artist, educator, and activist.He is also an Assistant Professor of Stage Direction at µÚÒ»³Ô¹ÏÍø.

Mr. Maharaj was twice hailed in The New York Times as a Critics Pickand has worked on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and the nation™s top opera houses and regional theatres.

On Thursday, December 21, at 8:00 p.m., the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning will present a special event in Queens, NY: Meet the Playwright: A Reading of brown girl in the ring byRajendra Ramoon Maharaj.

Set in the early 1980s in St. Andrew™s Parish, Jamaica, brown girl in the ring is a memory play with music. Fiercely humane, compassionate, uncompromised,the play is a victory for the theatre and for the transforming power of the imagination to turn devastation into beauty.
